Description

1/8"–3/8" Brass Latching Steam Solenoid Valve 0–4.9 Bar

The CS Fluid Power LSA610 Series is a compact, high-temperature 2/2 way latching brass solenoid valve designed for efficient control of steam, hot water, air, light oils and compatible gases. Available in 1/8", 1/4" and 3/8" BSP female threaded connections, these direct acting valves operate from zero differential pressure up to 4.9 bar, making them suitable for low-pressure steam systems, industrial process equipment and automated fluid control applications.

Featuring a robust brass body, stainless steel internal components and PTFE seals, the LSA610 Series supports media temperatures up to +200°C. Its 12V or 24V DC latching mechanism requires only a short electrical pulse to change valve position, eliminating the need for continuous coil energisation.

Unlike conventional normally closed solenoid valves, the latching design retains its last commanded position when electrical power is removed. This makes the LSA610 particularly suitable for battery-powered equipment, energy-efficient automation and systems where maintaining the valve position during a power interruption is desirable.

Latching Operation & Control

The LSA610 uses a bistable magnetic latching mechanism, allowing the valve to remain in its selected open or closed position without continuous electrical power.
Opening the valve → Apply a short DC electrical pulse with the appropriate polarity.
Closing the valve → Reverse the DC supply polarity and apply another short pulse.
Power removed → The valve remains in its last commanded position.
The magnetic mechanism holds the valve position after each switching operation, significantly reducing electrical energy consumption compared with continuously energised solenoid valves.

The LSA610 requires a suitable polarity-reversing controller or switching circuit to provide the correct opening and closing pulses.

The valve should not be treated as a conventional normally closed or normally open failsafe valve, because its position is retained following a power failure.

Port Sizes, Orifices & Flow Capacity

The LSA610 Series is available in three BSP female threaded sizes:

1/8" BSP – LSA6A
  • Orifice Diameter: 3mm
  • Kv Flow Factor: 4.43 L/min
  • Coil Type: WPG1

1/4" BSP – LSA8A
  • Orifice Diameter: 3mm
  • Kv Flow Factor: 4.43 L/min
  • Coil Type: WPG1

3/8" BSP – LSA10A
  • Orifice Diameter: 4mm
  • Kv Flow Factor: 8.29 L/min
  • Coil Type: WPG2
Flow coefficients are based on water at a 1 bar pressure differential.
Optional NPT threaded connections are available upon request.

Pressure & Temperature Ratings

The LSA610 direct acting range is designed for low-pressure fluid and steam control.
  • Operating Pressure: 0–4.9 bar
  • Minimum Differential Pressure: 0 bar
  • Maximum Media Temperature: +200°C
  • Ambient Temperature: -20°C to +60°C
  • Maximum Media Viscosity: 50 cSt
  • Opening / Closing Time: 200ms maximum
The zero-pressure operating capability makes these valves suitable for gravity-fed systems, low-pressure equipment and applications where a pressure-assisted solenoid valve would not operate reliably.
Pressure, temperature and media compatibility must be considered together when selecting the valve.

Brass Construction & PTFE Seals

The LSA610 Series features a durable brass valve body with stainless steel internal components and PTFE sealing materials.
Construction includes:
  • Valve Body: Brass
  • Core Tube and Spring: 304 stainless steel
  • Armature: 430F stainless steel
  • Other Internal Components: Stainless steel
  • Seals and Gaskets: PTFE
  • Solenoid Coil: Resin moulded
The valve design incorporates no copper shading ring, making it suitable for DC latching operation.
PTFE seals offer good chemical resistance and support elevated-temperature service with compatible fluids.

Electrical Coil & Voltage Options

The LSA610 Series is available with 12V DC or 24V DC latching solenoid coils.
Electrical specifications:
  • Supply Voltage: 12V DC or 24V DC
  • Voltage Tolerance: ±10%
  • WPG1 Coil Power: 12W
  • WPG2 Coil Power: 18W
  • Coil Insulation: Class H (180°C)
  • Electrical Connection: DIN 43650
  • Connector Protection: IP67
The 1/8" and 1/4" versions use the WPG1 coil, while the 3/8" version uses the larger WPG2 coil.
Because the valve is magnetically latched, the coil requires power only during switching. The electrical controller must be suitable for polarity reversal and pulsed operation.

Installation & Maintenance

The manufacturer recommends installation with the solenoid coil positioned upright.
For reliable operation, the valve should be installed in a clean fluid system with media compatible with the brass body, stainless steel components and PTFE seals.
The latching mechanism should be controlled using short electrical pulses rather than continuous energisation.
Replacement solenoid coils and armature assemblies are available according to the valve model and voltage.
