ATEX Ex ia Intrinsically Safe 3/2 Solenoid Valve – Rotex 30125 / 30201 / 30301
The Rotex 30125, 30201 and 30301 are ATEX and IECEx Ex ia intrinsically safe 3/2 way solenoid valves designed for hazardous-area process control applications where extremely low electrical power, high reliability and flexible valve functions are required.
The range includes 3/2 normally closed, normally open and universal configurations, with direct acting operation from high vacuum through to 20 Bar depending on function and orifice size. The universal 30301 can be configured for normally closed, normally open, diverting or mixing duties.
Manufactured as standard with a 316 stainless steel CF8 body and 316 stainless steel internals, these valves combine bubble-tight shut-off, resistance to vibration up to 9G, switching rates up to 1000 cycles per minute and a life expectancy exceeding 10 million cycles.
Valve Functions
The range provides three distinct 3/2 valve configurations:
Rotex 30125 – 3/2 Normally Closed
The pressure port is closed in the de-energised state. Energising the intrinsically safe solenoid changes the flow path.
Maximum pressure: 0 to 20 Bar, according to selected orifice.
Rotex 30201 – 3/2 Normally Open
Provides normally open operation where the primary flow path remains open without electrical power.
Maximum pressure: 0 to 20 Bar, according to selected orifice.
Rotex 30301 – 3/2 Universal
The universal configuration provides greater installation flexibility and can be piped for normally closed, normally open, diverting or mixing duties.
Maximum pressure: 0 to 14 Bar, according to selected orifice.
All three versions are direct acting, so no minimum operating pressure differential is required.
Ports, Orifices & Flow
Available BSP port sizes:
1/8"
1/4"
3/8"
1/2"
NPT threaded connections are available as an option.
Available orifices:
1.2mm
1.6mm
2.2mm
2.5mm
3.0mm
Water flow ranges from approximately 0.7 to 4 L/min at 1 Bar pressure drop, according to the selected orifice.
Construction & Materials
Standard body: 316 stainless steel CF8
Optional bodies: Brass or aluminium
Internals: 316 stainless steel

Available sealing materials include:
NBR
FKM (Viton®)
EPDM
PTFE / FKM
Hytrel
Suitable media include:
High vacuum
Air
Water
Industrial gases
Compatible process fluids
Media suitability should be confirmed against the selected seal material and valve materials of construction.
High-Speed Performance
In addition to hazardous-area certification, the Rotex 30125 / 30201 / 30301 range provides impressive mechanical performance:
Bubble-tight shut-off
Vibration resistance: Up to 9G
Maximum cycling: 1000 cycles/minute
Life expectancy: >10 million cycles
This makes the range particularly suitable for frequently operated process and automation systems where both intrinsic safety and long service life are important.
ATEX & IECEx Intrinsic Safety
The solenoid operator is certified for intrinsically safe installations in hazardous gas and dust atmospheres.
Approvals: ATEX & IECEx
IECEx certificate: IECEx BAS 12.0128X – Issue 1
ATEX certificate: Baseefa12ATEX0243X – Issue 1
Gas marking:
Ex ia IIC T5 Ga
-60°C ≤ Ta ≤ +75°C
Ex ia IIC T6 Ga
-60°C ≤ Ta ≤ +60°C
Dust marking:
Ex ia IIIC T200 125°C IP67 Da
-60°C ≤ Ta ≤ +75°C
The Ga and Da equipment protection levels make this intrinsically safe operator suitable for applications requiring a very high level of protection, subject to installation in accordance with its certification and entity parameters.
Intrinsically Safe Electrical Parameters
Minimum operating parameters:
Voltage: 10V
Current: 20mA
Power: 0.20W
Entity parameters:
Ui: 32V DC
Ii: 230mA
Pi: 2.3W
Li: 0
Ci: 0
The associated intrinsically safe circuit, barrier or isolator must be selected and installed in accordance with these certified entity parameters and the requirements of the hazardous-area installation.
Typical Applications
The Rotex Ex ia 3/2 range is particularly suited to oil and gas installations, petrochemical plants, chemical processing, analyser systems, process instrumentation, pneumatic control circuits, high-vacuum equipment, offshore installations, process skids and other hazardous environments where intrinsically safe electrical operation is required.
Why Choose Rotex 30125 / 30201 / 30301?
This range combines Ex ia intrinsic safety with true direct acting 3/2 control, providing operation from high vacuum without requiring pilot pressure or a minimum differential.
With NC, NO and universal functions, pressures up to 20 Bar, 316 stainless steel construction, 1000 cycles/minute capability and a life expectancy exceeding 10 million cycles, it provides a particularly versatile solution for critical hazardous-area control systems.
