Description

1/2" BSP Compressor Drain Solenoid Valve 0–16 Bar

The 1/2" BSP Compressor Drain Solenoid Valve is a robust 2/2 way normally closed direct-acting valve designed for automatic or electrically controlled drainage of condensate, water and light oils from compressed air systems.

Operating from zero pressure differential up to 16 Bar, the valve is suitable for compressor receivers, air dryers, filters, moisture separators and other industrial applications where reliable condensate drainage is required.

The direct-acting design incorporates a 4.5mm orifice, brass valve body, stainless steel internals and FKM (Viton®) seals for compatibility with compressed air, water, light oils and other suitable fluids below 50 cSt.

Powered by a high-performance 15 Watt Nass Magnet System 13/30 Class H solenoid coil, the valve is 100% continuous duty rated and supplied with an IP65 DIN43650A electrical connector.

Direct Acting Operation

The direct-acting design allows the valve to operate without requiring a minimum pressure differential.
When the solenoid coil is energised, the valve opens and allows accumulated condensate or fluid to discharge through the 4.5mm orifice.
When electrical power is removed, the valve automatically returns to its normally closed position.
This makes the valve particularly suitable for compressor drain applications where system pressure may vary considerably or fall close to zero.

Automatic Condensate Drain Control

The valve can be connected to a suitable electronic repeat-cycle timer to create an automatic compressor condensate drain system.
The timer periodically energises the valve for a predetermined period, allowing accumulated condensate to drain before automatically closing the valve again.
Adjusting the ON and OFF periods allows drainage frequency to be matched to compressor operating conditions while minimising unnecessary compressed air loss.

Typical Applications

Air compressors
Compressed air receivers
Refrigerated air dryers
Compressed air filters
Coalescing filters
Moisture separators
Air distribution systems
Industrial pneumatic equipment
Automatic condensate drain systems
Water drainage
Light oil control
Industrial fluid handling
OEM compressor equipment

Why Direct Acting is Useful for Condensate Drains

Pressure-assisted solenoid valves generally require a minimum pressure differential to operate correctly.
This valve is direct acting and therefore operates from 0 Bar, allowing reliable switching even when a compressor receiver or air system is depressurised or operating at very low pressure.
The 4.5mm internal orifice also provides a relatively unrestricted drainage path for condensate compared with smaller general-purpose solenoid valves.
Installation
The valve should preferably be installed at a low point in the compressed air system where condensate naturally collects.
For automatic drainage, connect the solenoid valve to a compatible repeat-cycle or digital timer and adjust the opening duration and interval according to the quantity of condensate being produced.
Periodic inspection and cleaning are recommended where condensate contains rust, scale, oil deposits or other contamination that could restrict the valve orifice.
