ATEX Ex ia 2/2 Solenoid Valve – Rotex 24102 / 24202


The Rotex 24102 and 24202 are ATEX and IECEx Ex ia intrinsically safe pressure-assisted solenoid valves designed for hazardous-area applications requiring large port sizes, high flow capacity and low-power electrical control.

Available as 2/2 way normally closed Rotex 24102 or 2/2 way normally open Rotex 24202, the range covers connections from 1/2" to 3" BSP, with orifices from 12mm to 80mm and water flow rates up to 1000 L/min.

Manufactured with a 316 stainless steel CF8 body and stainless steel internals, these valves operate from 1 to 20 Bar and use a low-power Rotex III intrinsically safe solenoid with booster circuit.

Normally Closed or Normally Open

Two operating functions are available within the range:
Rotex 24102 – 2/2 Normally Closed
The valve remains closed when electrically de-energised and opens when the solenoid is energised.
Rotex 24202 – 2/2 Normally Open
The valve remains open when electrically de-energised and closes when the solenoid is energised, providing fail-open operation on loss of the electrical control signal.
This allows the same large-flow valve platform to be selected according to the required process fail position.

Minimum pressure differential: 1 Bar
Unlike the direct-acting Rotex Ex ia valves we've just covered, the 24102 / 24202 requires sufficient pressure differential across the valve for correct operation.
I would make that 1 Bar minimum differential quite prominent on the ecommerce page, particularly given the very large port sizes. It avoids customers assuming that the valve will operate from zero pressure simply because some of the smaller Rotex Ex ia valves do.

This unusually broad size range makes the 24102 / 24202 particularly useful for higher-flow hazardous-area process applications.

The combination of up to an 80mm internal orifice and 1000 L/min water flow gives this range substantially greater capacity than the smaller direct-acting Ex ia valves.

These performance figures are appropriate to the larger pressure-assisted construction and shouldn't be mixed with the 1000 cycles/minute and >10 million cycle specifications of the smaller direct-acting Rotex 20101 / 20201 series.

The normally closed 24102 is suited to applications requiring automatic shut-off following loss of the electrical signal, while the normally open 24202 is suited to processes requiring a fail-open condition.
